Rajjpuut's Real Health Care Reform series intro

The trouble with only having one tool,  a hammer, is you will soon be treating the whole world like a nail.  The liberal wing of the Democratic Party is a one-trick pony.  If a problem exists, or even if it's mistakenly assumed to exist (global warming; need for sweeping government takeover of health care; 64% home ownership is too low; etc.) the hammer is brought out and money is thrown at the problem; future deficits are built into the system; and government interference and control on unprecedented new levels becomes the new law of the land.

That was the ineffectual waving of Barak Obama's hammer America witnessed during his recent Obamacare speech to the congress and the country . . . pretty pathetic stuff, of course.  Rajjpuut like most thinking people in this country found himself greatly UNDERwhelmed by Barak Obama’s ridiculous speech to congress and the American people supporting his unneeded Obamacare bill.    The highlight of the speech was when Obama was righteously called a liar; the many lowlights occured when Republicans gave the president roughly 25 standing ovations and repeated applause for a program that would annihilate an already fiscally moribund American nation.

1.                       While much “newness” was feigned at, there was not one bona fide new approach to the “problem” that he sees (which he has severely misdiagnosed, more later) it was just more of the same with a few more lies thrown in to make it seem more palatable to Republicans and Independents and Conservative Democrats.

2.                     The big lies were so numerous that Rajjpuut hopes not to have missed any in the torrent that poured out of the president’s forked tongue.

A.                     A. The declaration was made that “only a few details need to be ironed out”: a huge lie: Since Obamacare arises from totally bogus premises such as “only government solutions can possibly work to solve people’s problems”; and “the bigger and more involved the government is in the details of everyone’s lives, the better everyone’s lives will be” its conclusions are predictably pure hogwash and there is certainly nothing like a near consensus out there requiring “ironing out only a few details.”

B.     Bi-partisanship agreement was repeatedly suggested as obvious and true. What is obvious and true is that no Republican initiatives originally involved (such as complying with the Haynes act to prevent federal funding of abortion; such as complying with the “freedom of conscience provisions” that would NOT require a doctor to perform an abortion his conscience opposed; such as provisions requiring proof of citizenship and insisting that illegal aliens could not receive services; and most importantly Republican suggestions that HSA options for self-insurance be allowed and honored) . . . no Republican initiatives, not one of them, has been retained: all these crucial amendments have been removed by the Democratic majority in the various committees.

C.      Obama's pretense that the “public option” is small potatoes when the whole idea in the words of Obama and Barney Frank is that they need to pass only a tiny hint of a public option to effectively mean that the camel’s nose is in the tent and within a decade or perhaps only five years ONLY government manadated health insurance will be available and private health insurance would be a memory at best.

D.     The ludicrous pretense that forcing all people to have health insurance is equivalent to forcing all people to have car insurance; and that forcing employers to all have health insurance or pay into a “pot” to support government mandated health insurance is even constitutionally allowable.

E.      The ludicrous proposition that “prior conditions” can be mandated for coverage and private insurers can still survive . . . since this is a definite losing proposition under any conceivable actuarial conditions . . . this would guarantee the destruction of private insurance and the supremacy of the public option that Obama insists is “no big deal.”

F.      The biggest lie of all about Obamacare itself: “this is not a government takeover.” 1200 pages of new law is about to descend upon the people and their doctors . . . how much control and interference is needed, before someone calls it a “government takeover”?

G.     The biggest omissions of all about Obamacare: its multiple "evil" purposes . . . to give much more control over health care to the liberal supporters of all things government spending boondoggle-wise;  and to obscure the fact that all five of the worst government spending and government interference boondoggles (GSBs and GIBs) created by the liberal left wing of the Democratic Party  brought us to the current mess:

1)      Medicare now is obligated for $34 TRillion it can never hope to repay and it will officially go bankrupt in 2016.  Obviously if these two simple facts can be brought to permeate the public consciousness . . . the likelihood of future GSBs and GIBs such as Obamacare itself will be dramatically reduced and much more limited government would result.

2)     Medicaid is functionally bankrupt

3)     Even though the bankruptcy date for Social Security is officially 2037, it too is functionally bankrupt . . . Obamacare is trying to do for Medicare what recent legislation did for Social Security    . . . push its day of reckoning so far into the future that connection to the liberal congresses that created these bills is never made

4)     Jimmy Carter’s 1977 mortgage-guarantee legislation led the nation to 19% inflation in 1980 and ACORN lawyer Barak Obama sued and extorted banks in 1995 and 1996 into making loans in line with the bill which, while required by law were utterly senseless and fiscally irresponsible.

5)     Bill Clinton’s 1998 mortgage-guarantee law combined with the ’77 laws put the country’s financial collapse on steroids.  By the way when the Bush administration sought to eliminate the weakest portions of the two weak bills, in January 2005, the Democrats outvoted them to allow the fledgling crisis to grow beyond control.

H.    The faulty assumption that the problem with Americans’ health and the present health care system is caused by people NOT having health insurance.

1)      American physicians uniformly state that the problem actually lies with not being able to get health care to patients. For example, in the past doctors could give free care to the poor; or accept payment in kind from farm patients (over time eggs, vegetables, meat, etc.) but not this is forbidden in most cases. If a person of Medicare age is to be treated, all the paperwork must be filled out regardless and the Medicare laws must be followed even if they don’t apply or even interfere with doctor charity.

2)     Ex health-educator Rajjpuut, in his 26 blog series “A Far Better Health Care Alternative” has listed 44 factors that are far more important than health insurance:

For example . . .

a)     his #1 factor is elimination of the FDA totally, a corrupt government agency which rains pain, suffering and death upon American patients as described in his 16 Anti-FDA blog series

b)     42 other factors Rajjpuut mentions are not considered by Obamacare at all

c)      The only factor Rajjpuut and Obamacare did agree upon is “infant mortality.”

However, Obamacare treats this factor as totally a problem with lack of health care or insufficient health care . . . Rajjpuut names 14 factors (health care is NOT mentioned but the fact that modern American women lead the world in smoking, drinking, using drugs, obesity, etc.  definitely are crucial) that contribute and then describes a cluster of social factors that trace the history of the problem to the breakdown in the American family (predominance of unwed mothers; predominance of single-parent families; predominance of families with no husband ever in attendance to help the mother; predominance of families without a second parent living below the poverty line; etc. which all arose as the altogether laudable women’s movement  was taken over and radicalized by the feminist movement.   In making his analysis, of the historical deterioration of the American family as the root cause of high infant mortality. Problems that didn’t exist in 1960 when America had one of the highest ranked health care systems in the world and infant mortality and life expectancy were the envy of most of the world suddenly became real and huge problems as America’s women changed their perspectives egged on by unenlightened radical feminism.

Rajjpuut also debunked one of Obama’s crucial factors (America’s comparatively low life expectancy) and showed that the two factors (infant mortality and low life expectancy) because of the way the statistics are misused are really the same factor looked at twice . . . the implication is that when America solves its infant mortality crisis, life expectancy will jump markedly.

3)      Rajjpuut’s series showed that patients needed to be educated in preventive health; that health education at every turn was a key answer; and that the CDC should be much more involved (and much more well funded) in America’s health care prevention, health education and motivational needs.
4) Rajjpuut's creation of the brand new NHF position and its purpose is totally overlooked by Obamacare.  So virtually every single one of Obama's "cost-cutting" methods will not cut costs but only cut services and cost lives.

They’ve done it again! Anti-FDA Rant #17

The FDA bastar_s have added another sellout to their resume.

Vioxx and Fosamax are killers and maimers, PERIOD!

The Ol’ Health Educator is at it again, attacking the FDA. Loyal readers of Rajjpuut’s 27 blog “A Far Better Health Care Alternative” series and his previous 16 blogs in this "Anti-FDA Rant" series realize that the very first of Rajjpuut’s 40 tenets for an affordable health care program that would get Americans healthy, keep them that way and dramatically lower costs is to . . . .

Eliminate the FDA or fire all it’s employees and start over to make it a crucial part of the health care solutions in America rather than the #1 cause of health care problems in America.

The previous 16 blogs have proven that this “first tenet” is the most crucial step necessary for reforming health care in the United States. The founding principle of the preceding 43 blogs and of this one is the simplest and most important concept in all of medicine: “First Do NO Harm!” When it comes down to osteoporosis and the health

 a. of American bones and

b. of the pocketbooks of big pharmaceutical companies . . .

the FDA has once again sold out to BigPHARMA (with another killer called Fosamax) and severely endangered the health of Americans. This time the sellout is so severe, it’s only minimally better than putting a gun to the head of osteoporosis victims. Vioxx and Fosamax are killers and maimers, PERIOD! Fosamax, if early reports hold up, is poised to eclipse Vioxx as the most dangerous prescription drug since Thalidomide (by the way, the FDA has welcomed Thalidomide back with open arms). Remember that idea of “First Do NO Harm?” Vioxx has over 60,000 deaths on its resume and perhaps two million injuries . . . so Fosamax has a big challenge ahead of them. But Rajjpuut is confident, if anybody can make Vioxx look like Vitamin C and an apple a day, it’s Fosamax.

Osteoporosis, is just what it sounds like: their bones (osteo-) get thin, brittle, less dense and more porous as many people reach age 50 and beyond. The problem is especially crucial for women. 80% of osteoporosis victims are female and typically the very worst cases are among women also. Male victims are almost always found among men whose lifestyle works against them: such as heavy smokers, heavy drinkers, drug users and steroid users. For women drug use, smoking and anything beyond ultra-moderate alcohol consumption is just asking for trouble. For both men and women “sodas” are a leading contributing factor: the phosphorus in many colas and other soft drinks needs to be balanced in the body and that’s done by drawing calcium from the bones. Besides leading to easy fracturing of bones, osteoporosis also causes a marked forward stoop often leading to severe back pain and sometimes deformity.

An enormous amount of good can be done to turn around or even reverse osteoporosis and even more good can be done to PREVENT this hideous crippling disease. Apparently our doctors and BigPHARMA and the FDA are not interested in any of this, but wisdom says this is the first place to look. The Hippocratic Oath “First Do NO Harm!” immediately tells us what to do first: STOP the lifestyle practices that bring on osteoporosis, what could be simpler? Stop drug and tobacco use; stop or severely moderate alcohol consumption. Avoid steroids and soft drinks especially colas. Very few osteoporosis victims have a healthy lifestyle. They need to immediately take responsibility for adopting that healthier lifestyle right now . . . to start a walking program or something more vigorous; adopt good nutrition; and consider supplementing with the items mentioned below.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved several remedies for osteoporosis but the most popular and most profitable ones are bisphosphonate bone drugs such as Fosamax and Vioxx. These drugs don’t even pretend to help nature, they do absolutely nothing to enhance normal, healthy bone growth and development but instead pose immensely grave risks up to and including crippling and death. Three percent of patients taking these concoctions develop atrial fibrillation and half of them develop serious AF leading to long-term hospitalization or death. These statistics alone (but there’s more, there’s more) implicate bisphosphonates in 100,000 to 200,000 serious injuries or deaths for women every year since roughly ten million women are taking these drugs.

Abnormal bone growth and “greater brittleness” (in many cases) leading to abnormal fractures and numerous cases of temporary and permanent paralysis caused by this brittleness and abnormal growth. Severe back pains are a COMMON side effect of these poisons. And what will the FDA do about all this? Slap the wrist. They will insist upon stronger warning labels on the carton and in the included literature – if past performance is any clue.   So let’s get back to what SHOULD be done to treat and most importantly, to PREVENT osteoporosis by first of all doing NO HARM . . . .

Remember, this is a serious disease: potentially it will maim the victim for life. And if you take Vioxx and Fosamax, you’ve added greatly to your risk. But there is risk even without these medicines: hip fractures may impair ability to walk and may cause permanent disability or even death despite hospitalization and major surgery. Spinal or vertebral fractures also have serious consequences, including loss of height, severe back pain, and deformity. Osteoporosis can cause a person to stoop so far forward she'll appear to have a hump on her spine. It’s a crippler. So what’s to be done?

As loyal readers realize, beside panning the FDA, Rajjpuut has made a great case for dramatically enhancing the budget of and, just as importantly, the scope of the CDC (Center for Disease Control) from being the mainstay in the battle against communicable infectious disease to also taking on chronic lifestyle-caused problems like: diabetes, cancer, stroke, heart disease and osteoporosis to name only a few. Rajjpuut has said repeatedly that the CDC is by far the most effective health care organization in this country and should be put in charge of health care education via the media and of coordinating health care education in the schools as well as of chronic disease PREVENTION.

First that health care education should teach PREVENTION, getting rid of the negative lifestyle habits that make men and especially women prone to osteoporosis. Second the CDC would teach PROACTIVITY: what are the positive things one can do to push osteoporosis potential far, far away from your life? Active lifestyle choices like dancing, walking, jogging and running, other aerobics, bounding and bouncing on trampolines or rebounders; yoga, Pilates and similar exercises; good nutrition; and supplementation with magnesium, and fish oil containing EPA and GLA are the sort of practices that will help make people perhaps 3% as likely to get osteoporosis without any dangerous side-effects and far milder osteoporosis if they do get it.

None of this is rocket science, but virtually all of it is news to virtually all Americans, so they take the easy way out. They trust their health to doctors who have taken on too many patients and thus can’t keep up with medical research. These doctors are getting their information on junkets sponsored by BigPHARMA and hear no dissenting voices. Their training has them relying from their days as interns upon drugs to cure every ill. Medical training in this country attacks problems primarily in stage 3 or stage 4 of the process when the process is the most complicated, expensive and potentially dangerous. “First Do NO Harm!” advocates attacking the problem long before it is a problem.

And remember “First Do NO HARM!” emphasis advocates as a crucial first step: eliminating the FDA, the agency created to protect our health which instead protects the profits of BigPHARMA to the detriment of our health.  FDA = “Fouled-up Disaster Accelerants."

Ya’all live long, strong and ornery,

Rajjpuut

A Far Better Health Care Alternative Part XXIII (wrap up)

Eliminate voluntary reporting, it doesn't work; create a law requiring severe criminal penalties to any doctor, nurse or other health worker who does not immediately report any complaint of adverse drug or vaccine reaction to the CDC.

Public school systems with minimal or no daily high school physical education requirements average 30% obesity rates and usually big bullying problems compared  to 3% obesity at physically active schools and few bullying problems.

A Synopsis of Rajjpuut’s

Far Better Health Care

Alternative Blogs I-XXII

Last minute revisions:
I.
Iatrogenic incidents (medical care killing or injuring someone) are now the 4th leading cause of death in America, yet doctors only report 6-7% of the side-effect complaints of patients and in the case of mandatory vaccinations are suspected of only reporting 1% of the reactions.  Voluntary reporting must no longer be allowed.  A law needs to be created naming severe criminal penalties for doctors or nurses or hospital personell who do not report ALL such negative reactions to the CDC whether from prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs that are prescribed, or vaccinations.  Mandatory vaccinations are suspected of being the chief cause of autism, by the way.  In blog #22 of this series

http://rajjpuutsfolly.blogtownhall.com/2009/08/19/a_far_better_health_care_alternative_22.thtml

we revealed how two vaccinations (for meningitis and cervical cancer respectively) treated diseases that lifestyle corrections can treat with virtually 100% effectiveness without, of course, a single one of the dangerous side effects attributed commonly to
the Gardasil and Menactra vaccines, not to mention the cost for the vaccines and treatment for the side effects.

II.
We need to untie our school teacher's hands particularly in elementary schools.
  Just
rec'v'd a new study from a friend in education:  the 25% of  public school systems which have the most active daily physical education requirements K-12 achieve:  1.  the highest percentage of college attendees 2.  the lowest percentage of dropouts; 3. far fewer bullying problems and 4. compared to schools with minimal or no high school physical education requirements:  the high schools with the most active programs average 3% obesity compared to 30% obesity .  Laws need to be passed requiring at least 30 minutes of real daily physical activity for school age kids and 45 minutes for those under 12 years of age.  Laws also need to pass banning "frivilous law suits" for normal injuries at recess etc. thus protecting teachers to administer normal physical activity.  Teacher "malpractice" at recess may be possible, but perhaps 1/100,000 as often as lawsuits filed would indicate.  If parents don't like that, let them homeschool and deal with the problems (and the little monsters) themselves.  Amen

Why is it a better alternative?

Besides running three marathons and appearing and performing much younger than his age, Rajjpuut is a health educator with experience in the health insurance industry and is intimately in tune with the real factors in human health and with cost-containment.   Barak Obama and his cronies are politicos without the ghost of an idea about what’s best for the American health care systems. It is utterly damning that none or virtually none of the points brought up in the previous 20 blogs in this series has ever been mentioned, much less been considered a crucial factor in reforming the health care mess in this country. Which brings up another factor: the word “mess” is a technical term from Rajjpuut’s experience with Kepner-Tregoe management systems: the most effective in the world. Rajjpuut highly doubts that more than 1% of the politicians working on the health care initiatives have any effective management training.

What are the Major Planks?

1.    Elimination of the present Food and Drug Administration, or total revamping of the FDA which is easily the most corrupt and contra-productive entity in the entire system. The FDA in dealings with both the Food and Drug industries needs to be circumspect; neutral; decisive and to operate under one main proviso: “First do NO harm.” In a similar vein, add a 15% surtax upon highly-processed unhealthy food items (the potato chip and soft-drink tax, if you will); and 5% additional on liquor; and tobacco products to help pay for the new program.  For those who haven't read the first fourteen blogs in Rajjpuut's "Anti-FDA Rant" series, the series contents are summarized in:

         rajjpuutsfables.blogtownhall.com/2009/08/03/rajjpuuts_anti-fda_rant_15.thtml

2.    Elevation and expansion of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) (and its budget) by making it

a.    responsible for all aspects of health education in the country

b.    responsible for reduction in chronic death patterns in the country as well as its current emphasis on acute disease

c.     responsible for eliminating 80% of iatrogenic diseases

d.    responsible for creating the standards, the training and conduct of a whole new class of professional the NHF (National Health Facilitator).  For an understanding of the key role played by NHF's in the system see:

rajjpuutsfables.blogtownhall.com/2009/06/25/a_far_better_health_care_alternative_part_ii.thtml

e.    responsible for dissemination of the “Seven Golden Rules of Health” throughout the educational system; and disseminating the Harvard study on exercise benefits to high schools, colleges and adult-education classes.

f.     Responsible for motivating adults and especially older adults to adopt healthier lifestyles and dramatically reduce the numbers and percentages of morbidly-obese; obese; pre-diabetics; and adult-onset diabetics in the nation

g.    Responsible for educating the public to recognize “emergency medical conditions” quickly; also responsible for doubling the number of CPR qualified and first-aid qualified people in the country over the next 15 years

h.    Creation of a new “basic food groups” paradigm (sorry but dairy doesn’t belong in adult diets except yogurt and occasional cheese) based upon significant research findings

3.    Establish an alternate national health insurance that is a “major-medical” plan which allows one physical exam and follow-up; one (every three years) health education conference with an NHF based up physical exam results . . . and provides lower deductibles to people who follow the Seven Golden Rules of Health and are not obese, pre-diabetic, etc.

4.      Establish a solid inexpensive mental health program

1.  provide for a two-year study of EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)as:

a.     A psychological/psychiatric mental health resource

b.    A psycho-somatic mental health resource of apparent physical ills or physical limitations associated with underlying psychological factors

c.     A strictly medical health resource

d.    Understanding of the Hiccup Parable Phenomenon

EFT is found at emo.free.com  and a free 88? page download  about the process here:
emofree.com/dw.aspx?i=E&c=819626   It is a pdf file and requires Adobe Reader for access.

2.  With the CDC create an American "Mental Health Education" Program based upon the book "Happier" by Dr. Tal Ben-Sharar of Havard University.@@  Cost minimal and benefits incalculable.

5.    Eliminate all power of the AMA to regulate medical practice which apparently does not abide by the directive: “First do NO harm.”  In particular the practicing of palliative medicine and labelling diseases "auto-immune" and incurable.
Eli
Eliminate all power of the AMA to regulate doctors' ability to prescribe treatments using vitamins, minerals and nutrients as part or all of a line of treatment.

6.     Eliminate the term “auto-immune” disease from the legal descriptives for all diseases and health insurance

7.    Eliminate virtually all palliative medicines

8.    Require all drug companies to add the phrase “First do NO harm” to their annual statement of mission objectives.

9.    So long as prices are reasonable, double the effective patent protection time for all new products that actually “CURE” something.

10. Allow 1/3 the present patent protection period for any medicine that is remotely “palliative”

11. Create a new agency (Nutrition?) whose primary function is to review studies of vitamins, minerals, nutrients and whole foods as disease preventatives

12.  Allow drug companies patent protection equal to the present law’s limits:  on combinations of two or more natural ingredients which have been shown to either effectively reduce disease contraction or to increase health measurably (e.g. lower blood pressure in older hypertensives, etc.

13.Require all medical schools to inititiate programs emphasizing health, prevention and health education and intervening earlier (at the first stage)in the process to head off disease and other problems rather than later when the process is more expensive and less effective (fourth stage) when, for example, chronic unhealthy conditions have lead to adult onset diabetes.

14.Require all medical schools to have programs of medical ethics where the sole emphasis is on “First do NO harm.”

15.Require all medical schools to have programs on iatrogenic diseases emphasizing

a.    Drug interactions

b.    Malpractice

c.     Defensible doctor mistakes that still could have been eliminated

16.Require all medical schools to have programs on proper nutrition and on the Seven Golden Rules of Health.

17.Require all medical schools to have programs in “bedside manner” and understanding malpractice

18.In so far as possible eliminate the practice of labeling diseases “incurable” and then putting patients upon a road of lifelong subscription to expensive, dangerous medicines that cannot cure them.

19.Provide pilot program money for groups like “Cancer Centers of America” and “Gerson programs” to expand their operations into other chronic disease problem areas.

20.Eliminate ALL practice of administering antibiotics unless the physician is 100% sure that NO viral condition exists.

21.Eliminate all presently dangerous drugs which either  kill on the one hand an/or don’t really help CURE anything on the other: the list could stretch out to 60-70 names but Ritalin; Avandia, statins, PPI’s etc. would be on the list.

22.Eliminate drug advertising from medical journals

23.Limit physicians to 44 patient contacts maximum per day.

24.Create a new malpractice category: iatrogenic deaths due to drug interactions and allow NO cap on malpractice by drug companies

25. Label any drug with a history of deaths or serious injury or illness resulting from use as (potentially dangerous) and allow NO cap on malpractice suits against doctors prescribing these drugs

26.Create a new malpractice law listing criminal penalties for “failure to inform” and allowing NO cap for failure to inform and “failure to diagnose” malpractice

27.Create a new malpractice law listing four categories of medical practice:

a.    faultless and compassionate treatment

b.    defensible and mitigated malpractice

c.     defensible malpractice but inferior treatment (either lacking compassion or physically errant)

d.    indefensible malpractice.

28.Create a cap on “defensible and mitigated” malpractice

29.Create a higher cap on “defensible but inferior” malpractice

30.Allow NO cap on “indefensible” malpractice

31.After one malpractice suit, do not allow malpractice insurers to raise premiums for defensible and mitigated malpractice; and only 10% for defensible malpractice but inferior treatment.

32.Allow insurers to raise premiums as needed after a second successful malpractice suit has been brought against a doctor for category “c” malpractice.

33.Allow insurers to raise premiums as needed after a third successful malpractice suit has been brought against a doctor for category “b” malpractice.

34.Reestablish DDT as the mosquito killer of choice in this country and allow its manufacture again

35.  The following understanding be taught in medical schools:

Five things should ALWAYS be kept in mind when dealing with patients and illnesses or other medical conditions:

A. A certain percentage of patients, even left absolutely alone, will be healed: the body is a wise physician and works wonders on its own when not interfered with

B. A sugar pill or prayer or just having a doctor listen to them or touch them will suffice to cure others: this is the well-known "placebo effect" and rather than being something to laugh at or joke about . . . implies that healing is a mental/

psychological/spiritual and holistic phenomenon as well as corporeal

C. The elimination of pain is NOT the same as eliminating the underlying medical situation in 95% of instances. Pain, per se, is a good thing:   warning of problems . . . while eliminating or minimizing pain is a responsibility of the physician, item D (below next) is the crucial physician's charge.

D. Because ot the truth of ABC above and the great wisdom that they imply, the physician's noblest commandment is the first one: "First Do No Harm" (the Hippocratic Oath) because anything that takes the patient further from conditions A and B above is taking the patient further from eventual wellness.

E. By necessity, medical benefit comes in varying "flavors."

1.The best medicine is preventative, keeping the patient healthy and avoiding conditions that would take the patient away from health. The most effective medicines in the world are still fresh air, good healthy food and drink, proper exercise, sleep and other rest, good eating habits and avoiding intake of destructive items like drugs, tobacco, alcohol and highly processed foods**.

2. The second best medicine is interruptive, catching negative conditions slightly before, or at, or near their onset when treatment is the cheapest, easiest, fastest and surest.

3. The third best medicine is discovering sickness or debilitation in patients and then curing them.

4. Setting the body in such condition that phenomena A and B above  and E1 immediately above can follow naturally, is the purpose of most of what is good and great in medicine. When the physician's surgical intervention returns the patient's body to a place where the body's resources can tak over, all has been done that medicine, per se, can ask.

5. Palliative medicine (masking syptoms without curing) is quackery which is not only below contempt, but very dangerous.

A Far Better Health Care Alternative #22

Studies confirm: 94-96% of serious side-effects from all drugs go unreported by doctors

The truest and most important words ever spoken about proper medicine are these: “First do NO harm!”  Obamacare hasn’t been listening . . .

Gardasil Puts Girls in Danger, but Is NOT

Very Effective vs. Cervical Cancer

As the battle over health care reform goes on a lot of time and energy and potentially a huge lot of money is involved but, no one with possibly the only exception being Ol’ Rajjpuut here, is paying any attention to the real issues that impact the health of Americans and the runaway costs of health treatment in this country.    The story of Merck’s Gardasil Vaccine is a case in point: this is the sort of thing that we need to pay attention to . . .

Just how important is the issue brought up by this blog?   Here's the tip of the iceberg:  the fourth leading cause of death in this country is "iatrogenic incidents" (medical treatment kills you) and the #1 cause of iatrogenic deaths and incidents is negative reactions to legally prescribed medicines.  You, dear reader, are four times more likely to die courtesy of an adverse drug reaction from prescribed medicine and ten times more likely to get sent to the hospital for treatment from that same drug, vaccine etc. than you are to die or get sent to the hospital due to an automobile accident.  Did you hear that Mr. Obama?

If you give a man only a hammer, after awhile he starts treating the whole world like a nail.  This is one of the main problems with the American health care system: our doctors have come to rely on only one tool: the drugs and vaccines created by big pharmaceutical companies. Unfortunately a closer look at these drugs and vaccines shows them to be quite ineffective (most don’t actually cure anything), quite expensive and replete with legions of dangerous, even deadly, side effects.  American medicine is based upon intervention in the third or fourth stage of disease or ailment when health risks are greatest, chances for success are lowest and expense is greatest.  Let’s look more closely at a very interesting vaccine:  Gardasil, a very popular vaccine, manufactured by Merck . . . here the doctors have the right idea:  prevention . . . but the hammer they're using is pathetically inadequate and dangerous.

Obamacare NOT Guarding against Gardasil Dangers, etc.

The idea behind Gardasil injections is to stop the HP (human papilloma) virus dead in its tracks and thus reduce the chances or eliminate cervical cancer in girls and young women.   Most people have heard of the “pap smear” and know that it’s a screening test to detect cancer and pre-cancerous conditions in the cervix. HPV is associated with virtually all cases of cervical cancer as well as some other cancers and other infections in the anal, vulval and vaginal areas of females and anus and genitals of males. Unfortunately, HPV is about as common in our world as the bacteria that cause staph and strep infections and the numerous viruses that can cause the common cold.

Some people consider HPV virus a “venereal disease” since sex is definitely one culprit in transmission. But, speaking precisely, HPV is NOT a VD or even an STI (sexually transmitted infection) any more than having a heart beat is a cause of any disease.  It’s just not known why this woman gets cervical cancer and that one doesn’t, any more than in many cases it’s known why one person catches a cold and another person with even more exposure to the “germs” doesn’t. HPV is an STD (sexually transmitted disease) but unlike most STD’s the vast majority of the time HPV exposure occurs: nothing happens.  If any response occurs, it tends to be very mild, say a genital wart. In any case 70% of females with HPV get well without problems within a year and 90% within two years. Because of HPV’s connection to cervical cancer, however, there was much interest in medical answers to HPV.

The Merck people were very enthusiastic about their Gardasil Vaccine as a way to stop cervical cancer and doctors, convinced that HPV is the culprit, leaped aboard their bandwagon. They grabbed the “hammer” because unfortunately that’s what American doctors do, they grab the one tool they are consistently comfortable with: big drug company products.

Study after study over the years shows that doctors, convinced they have all the answers apparently, frequently ignore or dismiss patients complaints about side affects from medicines and it’s estimated that somewhere in the neighborhood of 95% of serious side effects from prescribed medicines go unreported. 95%! This initially makes all drugs and vaccines appear to be far safer than they really are in the eyes of doctors and (since now so many ads for prescription drugs are aimed at patients rather than doctors) their patients. In the case of Gardasil, the vaccine is aimed at young girls and women from 9-26 years of age.

Adverse side effects suspected of connection to vaccinations are supposed to be reported to the federal Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) but unfortunately reporting is voluntary. That part needs to be changed right now – if a doctor ignores or pooh-poohs his patients’ report of ill-effects possibly from a vaccination; or if a doctor to cover-up his ineptitudes deliberately chooses not reporting that should be a criminal offense. Only 1-4% of suspected adverse vaccine reactions are ever reported to VAERS.

The problem gets uglier. Many vaccines are mandated by law, especially for children. Doctors virtually never report side-effects from mandated vaccines. Doctors are advised by the AMA and the drug companies to “stick to their guns” and highlight the dangers of the disease vaccinated against and emphatically deny all possibility that any potential complications could be associated with the vaccine they gave.

Two things to note: the OK for the thousands of harmful drugs and vaccines on the market comes from the Food and Drug Administration (which in his earlier fifteen “Anti-FDA Rants” Rajjpuut said was the most corrupt federal agency and if only one step was made into law: that step should be elimination or total redo of the FDA). VAERS is a function of the Center for Disease Control out of Atlanta (Rajjpuut in his twenty-one separate blogs “A Far Better Health Care Alternative” called the CDC the only health agency that puts the American people first and suggested that reform start with vastly increasing the budget and responsibility of the CDC in certain specific ways) . . . so the actions of the doctors and the drug companies and the AMA dramatically worsen the problems created by the utterly incompetent FDA and absolutely cut the legs out from under the CDC, the most competent health force in this country.

Back to Gardasil. The truest and most important words ever spoken about proper medicine are these: “First do NO harm!”  Obamacare has definitely NOT been listening . . . no provisions for redoing the FDA and making drug companies accountable is of interest to the Democrats crafting the bills.   Instead to protect $80 Billion in drug profits originally threatened by the proposed bills, the big drug companies have agreed to fund $180 million worth of pro-Obamacare television advertising.

Despite the reporting problems mentioned earlier, since 2006 something like thirteen thousand reports of side-effects from Gardasil have emerged and almost eight hundred instances of serious to life-threatening side effects have been reported.

And guess what? Reading the label of Gardasil, the shot-taker finds that a whole lot of dangerous HPV is NOT targeted by Gardasil. With that sketchy record working for them, Merck wants to market Gardasil to women 27-45; and also to boys 9-26 years of age. Since males can NOT get cervical cancer and the side effects are so prevalent and deleterious (even though only 4% of the time they get reported) . . . clearly the FDA will give Merck the go ahead and these horrific side effects can be expected to expand to new populations.

Another dangerous vaccine the FDA has given the go ahead is Menactra for meningitis even though 70% of the time it’s admittedly ineffective. You’ll be glad to know that when Menactra and Gardasil are used in close proximity to each other, patients reported:

  • Guillain Barre Syndrome increased by 1,000 percent
  • Respiratory problems increased by 114 percent
  • Cardiac problems increased by 118 percent
  • Neuromuscular and coordination problems increased by 234 percent
  • Convulsions and nervous system problems increased by 301 percent

. . . and minor complications like headache and fainting and stomach upsets  and dizziness and flu-like symptoms and about 60 others went through the roof as well.

The thing the FDA and the drug companies don’t want people to know is this: meningitis and cervical cancer are just about 100% preventable by adopting a smarter lifestyle. In the case of meningitis, virtually all the threatened populace consists of college students. Smoking, heavy drinking, drug use and abuse, lack of sleep, poor eating habits, lack of exercise, and stress are all implicated in study after study. They get meningitis because their lifestyle is deficient not because an ineffective shot was NOT given to them. Obviously these are the sorts of things that parents and students need to hear at freshman indoctrinations and in required health classes rather than risking their lives with Menactra.

Although Merck is promoting wider use of Gardasil, someone’s cooler heads have prevailed and they are no longer pushing for “mandatory status” for the vaccination ever since a barrage of reports have come into the National Vaccine Information Center. With 30 reports daily coming into NVIC and going on to  VAERS, anybody who gets their daughter inoculated with Gardasil is just asking for trouble.   Remember those reports are expected to be less than 5% of all the possible nasty effects that occur!  VAERS reports on Gardasil constitute almost 25% of all the adverse reactions from all inoculations and Gardasil constitutes far less than 25% of the inoculations administered in this country. Did Rajjpuut mention that Mr. Obama isn’t taking any of this into account?

Rajjpuut just said cervical cancer was virtually 100% preventable by lifestyle . . . so how do you prevent HPV from causing cervical cancer? Use of condoms for sexually active teenagers reduces cervical cancer rates 70% and genital warts 90%.   If you’ll look at what was said earlier about meningitis and college students the same good advice pays off in spades for HPV and genital warts and cervical cancer, to wit: avoid smoking, heavy drinking, drug use and abuse, lack of sleep, poor eating habits, lack of exercise, and stress . . . Young women largely get cervical cancer, etc. because their lifestyle is deficient not because an ineffective and dangerous shot was NOT given to them.  Merck, in pursuit of a quick doubling of its profits is looking to add young boys and men to its target audience . . . instead all populations should immediately be removed as guinea pigs for this dangerous shot, immediately, Mr. Obama.

A Far Better Health Care Alternative Part XIV

Cars work much better if proper levels of oil, water, tire air, etc. are maintained. More importantly, don’t put eggs or sugar in the gas tank. The human body is the same.

After thirteen anti-FDA Rants and another fourteen Better Health Care Alternative series blogs, it still needs to be said: the FDA is the single biggest thing wrong with the American health care system as it now stands.

Cars work much better if proper levels of oil, water, tire air, etc. are maintained. More importantly, don’t put eggs or sugar or potting soil in the gas tank. Doing what’s right is very important;  avoiding all the wrong things is even far more important. The human body is the same. Recognizing this Hippocrates, the father of medicine gave us this simple rule: “First, do no harm.” First don’t put eggs or sugar in the gas tank. First don’t put harmful substances into the human body. Rajjpuut’s parents died iatrogenic deaths. That means the systems in place expected, hopefully, to save them, killed them both. Iatrogenic illnesses, injuries and deaths come in three varieties:

A.     Doctors, hospitals, nurses, etc. make terrible mistakes and the patient suffers

B.     Prescribed medicines, approved by the FDA, from a doctor hurt the patient

C.    Combinations of A and B above

Looking at case B and case C above more closely . . . virtually 100% of these incidents are caused by the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) ineptitude or willful disregard of the nation’s health. You are ten times more likely to be hospitalized and four times more likely to die from a negative reaction to an FDA approved drug . . . than you are to be hospitalized or die from an automobile accident.

Right now the two classes of medicines that are creating the most profit for the big pharmaceutical companies are called PPIs and Statins. Statins are cholesterol-lowering drugs. Statins barely work to lower cholesterol. They are basically prescribed till death. They cure nothing. They are “palliatives” which means they cover up or lessen symptoms. They are very expensive. They carry many disagreeable side effects including death. Most importantly statins treat a disease condition that does NOT exist . . . .

Elevated cholesterol is NOT a cause of heart attacks. This has been suspected for roughly 43 years and known for a fact since 1975, 34 years ago. Science expects that people with the worst indicators of disease die much more often than people with the lightest symptoms. This is medical cause and effect. If high cholesterol levels were the main cause of heart attacks, than roughly 100% of those who died from heart attacks would show elevated cholesterol. Only 47% of them do. That, far from being cause and effect is worse odds than the Las Vegas casinos will give you on a zero/double-zero roulette wheel. The FDA knows this, that has not prevented them from allowing statins to be sold; and that has not prevented them from lying about the safety of these UNNEEDED drugs. No products in history have made drug companies more money. No products in history have done more harm in the last 43 years.

Today, statins are rivaled in harm by a new challenger: PPIs. PPI’s stand for “proton-pump inhibitors.” Proton pump inhibitors “treat” another disease that does not exist. Acid reflux disease is a creation of Madison Avenue in order to sell drugs. Supposedly if you suffer from constant “heartburn” you may be at risk for acid reflux disease which supposedly threatens your esophagus. There is in reality NO acid reflux disease. If you have heartburn . . . 90+% of the time you have too LITTLE stomach acid, not too much. Drugs that lower stomach acid are very dangerous and they don’t cure anything but indeed make it much worse in the long run. They are also highly addictive, dangerous and expensive.

One of the worst of the many dangerous side effects of PPIs is something called “c. dificile” which is 99.999% of the time an iatrogenic disease caused by too freely prescribing antibiotics (many doctors immediately prescribe an anti-biotic even when a virus is suspected even though viruses cannot be killed by antibiotics and the doctor knows this, he just wants you out of his office). Our friend c. dificile is an iatrogenic form of dysentery: like Montezuma’s Revenge on steroids – and worse, because it’s almost impossible to cure and utterly debilitating and often deadly. If, however, a doctor not only prescribes overly ambitious or unneeded antibiotics but does so in combination with PPIs (which Rajjpuut reminds you are ALWAYS unnecessary) the chances for c. dificile outbreaks not only multiply, but the illness once contracted becomes even more deadly and less easily cured.

PPIs are supposedly on the cusp of supplanting, or already have supplanted, statins as the most profitable drugs on a year-by-year basis. They may even, pray God, “NO,” someday supplant statins as the all-time profit maker. Here are the two most profitable drugs in American history, both approved with glowing recommendations for their safety by the FDA. Both are life-subscriptions. Both cure nothing; both do not even do a good job at dealing with symptoms. PPIs are even addictive. Both are very harmful, even deadly. Both are very expensive and both are part and parcel of giving Americans the most expensive health system in the world which delivers less than mediocre results.

After thirteen anti-FDA Rants and another fourteen of Rajjpuut's Better Health Care Alternative series blogs, it still needs to be said: the FDA is the single biggest thing wrong with the American health care system as it now stands.  Far from "doing no harm," a huge percentage of the harm being done is being done with FDA's beaming approval.  Like Custer, like Obama and his liberal syncophants . . . the FDA is enthusiastically and constantly moving in the wrong direction.  The FDA needs to be eliminated or completely revamped starting at the top 4-5 levels of management.

Rajjpuut

A Far Better Health Care Alternative Part XIII

Today’s health problems are a wave of life-style caused silent epidemics:  heart disease, diabetes, stroke, cancer, liver and kidney diseases and, of course iatrogenic incidents.
The single most dangerous part of the health care system is the FDA.  The single most effective sector is the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta.

Rajjpuut Does It Better:

A Workable Health Care

Alternative:   Part XIII

Last time out in Part XII of this health care series, Rajjpuut reiterated that the FDA was the most dangerous part of the American health care system. The FDA needs to be either eliminated totally or completely revamped and made 100% accountable. The AMA and individual nurses, doctors and hospitals can do much to eliminate iatrogenic incidents but the FDA is the big iatrogenic killer. If a drug kills people, or harms people: the FDA bigwigs need to be fired and perhaps even fined or better yet imprisoned. The CDC, on the other hand (Center for Disease Control in Atlanta) was put forward by Rajjpuut as a big part of the answer to our problems as far as cost, as far as countering the nation’s big killer diseases and increasing the quality of Americans’ lives.

In a nutshell Rajjpuut, the ol’ health educator, has created a plan that works because it does virtually everything the opposite of how the health care system has worked up to now. Instead of concentrating 95% of our resources, time, talent, money and effort on stage four: discovering a disease and treating it which is the most costly and least effective (from the patient’s point of view) way to practice medicine, Rajjpuut advocates entering the system at the health education and preventions stage, stage one. As mentioned last time the biggest single thing to educate people about were the Seven Golden Rules of Health and the 35 extra quality years that they can mean for the individual. Follow this link and see the bottom of the page for the foot note info about this amazing knowledge :

http://rajjpuutsfolly.blogtownhall.com/2009/07/18/a_far_better_health_care_alternative_part_xii.thtml

How exactly it would all work is covered in blog XII of the series, but here’s an example of attacking probably the single biggest problem but also illustrating the entangled nature of the health care mess. Let’s look at morbid obesity; obesity; and the disease and silent killer that often accompanies them both: diabetes. When it comes to older Americans, which now means the baby boomer generation and those who were born before them, 20% of them suffer from diabetes and pre-diabetes is noticeable in another sixty million older Americans.

Diabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels go out of control. The body uses the pancreas and its hormone insulin to control blood sugar. When the pancreas doesn’t product enough insulin or when the pancreas produces enough but the body can’t seem to use it effectively: diabetes results and it’s a killer and an incredible trouble-maker. It can blind you. It can cause you to lose limbs to amputation; it can cripple you and it can cause heart attacks and cancer and kill you. And, of course, it can dramatically limit the length and quality of your life. Most all of us are familiar with the specter of a diabetic victim needing to keep their insulin cold and taking their daily shot or shots of insulin. And insulin is a dangerous drug . . . it can kill you.

Diabetes can damage your very arteries, veins and capillaries, ruin your liver, and destroy your sex life. All this and the horrors mentioned in the previous paragraph are in large part preventable.

For those who don’t understand what we’re talking about, Type I Diabetes is NOT what we’re talking about. Type I is genetic for the most part. We’re talking about Pre-diabetes and Type II or “adult onset diabetes” a condition that develops later in life and typically accompanies obesity. Sixty million Americans today are considered pre-diabetic and forty million have diabetes of one kind or another. We are also NOT talking about the form of diabetes that some pregnant women undergo, gestational diabetes, though the information revealed in this blog will presumably help the vast majority of women avoid gestational diabetes altogether. And we are not talking about any other diabetes complex, but just about adult onset diabetes and obesity . . . and especially about pre-diabetes and preventing all pre-diabetics from developing the full-blown disease.

Adult onset diabetes is the perfect metaphor for what’s wrong with the American health care system. The disease is probably 99.999% preventable. Follow the seven golden rules and one American in 10,000 will become pre-diabetic and one in 100,000 will develop adult onset diabetes. The single most important steps are daily exercise; a good breakfast; several tiny meals; weight-control; and good nutrition . . . if you want to prevent the disease.

Like virtually all of today’s drug culture, insulin and other drugs prescribed to diabetics do NOT cure anything. If you develop the disease, today’s medicine treats you with insulin every day for the rest of your life. You become a subscriber to a “palliative medicine,” that is a drug that “treats the symptoms” of the disease but can’t cure it. It’s expensive and as we’ve mentioned, insulin shock is a killer. Of course you could wait for a match and get a pancreas transplant, but those are rare and very seldom as effective as might be hoped and very, very expensive. All this danger can be removed by preventing the disease in the first place or undoing the disease if you are already diabetic or pre-diabetic. That involves with close doctor control, living the Seven Golden Rules of Health and good nutrition.

If you want to prevent diabetes you have mostly to look at the waistline. Morbidly obese people are roughly 28 times more likely to develop diabetes and 150 times more likely to be pre-diabetic than someone who maintains a healthy normal weight. Those who are merely fat (obese) are about 11 times more likely to develop diabetes and about 54 times more likely to be pre-diabetic. Just starting mild exercise 40 minutes a day  (in extreme cases walking in a swimming pool is the very first exercise intervention most doctors will recommend), good nutrition and TIME will work virtual miracles.  What exact GOOD are we doing by these simple inexpensive steps? Check this out:

Besides the desirability of preventing virtually all the human tragedy mentioned above, diabetes and obesity are extraordinarily expensive. Obesity is hard to detail solid numbers on, but diabetes costs rose 32% for treating adult onset diabetes between 2002 and 2007. Estimated diabetes expenditure today are $143 Billion in direct medical costs and $74 Billion in indirect costs (work loss, premature death, disability, etc.). This means that 11% of all health care money spent in the United States is associated with diabetes of one sort or another.

Perhaps the most glaringly understated statistic in the whole health care mess is that diabetes is associated with 7% of American deaths. Most probably that number is more like 27% since diabetes contributes mightily to heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure, cancers, etc. In the country with the most abundant presence of nutritious food, millions of fat Americans are also killing themselves with malnutrition. Add in a bit of fitness training to good nutrition and miracles are possible, however: The CDC statistics reveal that prevention, health education and safety education really does work.

  • In the Diabetes Prevention Program study, lifestyle interventions reduced diabetes development in people at high risk by 58% over a three-year period -- and an even more impressive 71% in adults age 60 and older. In contrast, Metformin, the diabetes drug compared in one famous study to the lifestyle intervention, reduced diabetes risk only half as much, cost a lot, didn’t always work and carried with a whole host of side effects.
  • Comprehensive foot care programs can reduce amputation rates by 45% to 85%.
  • Blood pressure control reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke in people with diabetes by 33% to 50%, and the risk of microvascular complications (eye, kidney and nerve diseases) by approximately 33%.
  • Lowering blood pressure can reduce the decline in kidney function in people with early diabetic kidney disease 30% to 70%.
  • Detecting and treating diabetic eye disease with laser therapy can reduce the development of severe vision loss by about 50% to 60%.
  • Controlling LDL cholesterol can reduce cardiovascular complications by 20% to 50%.
Medical procedures and doctors are NOT the solution. Simply taking control of one’s lifestyle and responsibility for one’s health is, while not the only thing, the main thing that really works. The leading risk factor for type 2 diabetes is  morbid obesity. The second leading factor is lesser obesity -- one-third of American adults are obese or morbidly obese. In some states like Mississippi and Alabama those figures jump to 40-41% obesity.  Twenty percent of today’s children are either significantly overweight or actually obese.   Again, beating a dead horse, small steps toward an exercise regimen and big steps toward nutritious eating hold the key to health and lowered health costs.

Since Rajjpuut believes that sainthood is rare and therefore it's more important to help people avoid being "sinners" help is on the way, Oh you sinners!

A Far Better Health Care Alternative Part XII

The single most dangerous part of the health care system is the FDA.  The single most effective sector is the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta.

Unlike the past when killers and cripplers like plague, typhus, typhoid, polio, small pox, anthrax were lurking everywhere . . . today’s health problems are a wave of life-style caused silent epidemics:  heart disease, diabetes, stroke, cancer and, of course iatrogenic incidents.

Today malaria kills two million people every year:  before liberals banned DDT, the most virulent acute diseases were just about wiped off the planet.
DDT can be safely used as salad dressing or breakfast juice:  malaria has killed fifty million since Rachel Carson wrote “Silent Spring” and set off the usual liberal over-reaction but DDT is making a comeback by popular demand in Africa and other threatened areas.

Rajjpuut Does It Better:

A Workable Health Care

Alternative:   Part XII

Rajjpuut’s loyal readers have noticed that the ol’ boy doesn’t pull any punches.  If his thirteen part RANT series on the FDA hasn’t convinced you that the single most dangerous part of the health care system in America is the FDA, there’s probably no hope your IQ will ever rise above 50.  While the FDA is a disaster which must be cut off at the knees, the single most effective and little-used sector and even ill-used sector of the health care system in this country is the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta.  Before we talk about the CDC and how they can help us lick our intense health care mess, let’s get a bit of understanding under our belts . . . .

Disease has traditionally been divided into two spheres since about the middle of the 20th Century:  acute infectious disease and chronic disease.  Acute infectious diseases like the famous historical killers (plague, typhus, typhoid, polio, small pox, anthrax, cholera) were lurking everywhere.  They were often diseases that thrived with lack of sanitation, personal cleanliness, and insect and animal vectors (mosquitoes, lice, fleas, ticks, rats, mice) or some that loved human crowds (small pox and polio).  With Jonas Salk’s polio vaccine in the middle 50’s it appeared that mankind had the acute diseases on the run.  Smallpox and polio were wiped off or about to be wiped off the planet and the other diseases were only capable of tiny flare ups here and there.  Sanitation, inoculation and elimination of insect vectors like the anopheles mosquito had made the world a much safer place.

Those were the conditions when a pseudo-scientific book called “Silent Spring” was written by Rachel Carson.  The book claimed the world was in danger of a silent spring as all the birds were about to be wiped out (thinning eggshells she said caused by DDT, which she said fouled the food chain for virtually all animal life including causing cancer in humans).  The liberal over-reaction and refusal to actually “do the science” got DDT banned virtually everywhere on the planet.  Malaria which had caused 50,000 illnesses in one year has now reclaimed its top spot with two million deaths annually.  Since her book, Rachel Carson can claim fifty million deaths to her credit outdoing Hitler and Stalin combined.  However, DDT (which is so safe you can use it for a breakfast juice or salad dressing; and which has never been scientifically proven to damage any higher animal life) is making a comeback because it’s cheaper, much more effective and far less dangerous than anything used to replace it.  So hopefully within a decade we might once again be able to say that acute disease is on the run.  But here in the United States it is chronic disease and iatrogenic diseases and injuries rather than acute disease that cause all the problems.

Most people are familiar with chronic diseases:  heart attack, stroke, diabetes, various cancers, tuberculosis, pneumonia, Alzheimer’s, influenza, and liver and kidney diseases.  These killers and automobile and other accidents account for a huge percentage of the American death toll.  If you add in “iatrogenic” incidents (where medicines and medical treatment cause death) you pretty much know all you need to know about what kills Americans.  In Africa the malaria mosquitoes do them in.  In America we do ourselves in by our lifestyles causing chronic killing diseases or by auto wrecks or by poor medical practices.  In short the biggest trouble in America is the “silent epidemic” of chronic disease that we face.  Diseases caused by how we live our lives.  In many cases Americans dig their graves with their teeth (or with cigarettes or alcohol or drugs).

When it comes to iatrogenic diseases the AMA, the hospitals, and individual doctors and nurses do play an important and deadly role . . . but the big killer is the FDA.  You are ten times more likely to go to the hospital from a negative reaction to a prescribed medicine than you are from an automobile accident.  You are also four times more likely to die in the hospital than from an auto accident.  The roll call of dangerous drugs that the FDA has foisted off on the American people goes on and on.  We now put 30 times more children on Ritalin then we did fourteen years ago.  Ritalin has been proved in England to be totally ineffective both in the short and long-term and to have a string of vicious side-effects no one should wish upon their worst enemy.  Drugs like Avandia, Celebrex, Vioxx, all the Proton Pump Inhibitors, and Statins  are virtually loaded guns.  To top it off, none of these drugs actually cures anything.  Exit the FDA, quickly please!  And enter the CDC.

The CDC is easily the most effective arm within the nation’s health care mess. By the way “mess” is a technical management term.  Everyone knows what a problem is . . . sometimes a situation has three or four or more multiple easily recognized problems.  When you have a whole slew of intertwined problems all impacting each other and the whole situation – that is a mess!  The United States has a health care mess on its hands.  Too many get sick, stay sick for a long, long time (that’s what chronic diseases or chronic situations do) and cost the system and themselves a whole helluva lot of time, trouble and an enormous amount of money.  Just as the elimination of the FDA would help enormously, the CDC is the single most little used and even ill-used part of our health care system.  In league with the National Health Facilitators, or NHFs, that in earlier blogs Rajjpuut suggested be created to help deal with our health care mess:  the CDC holds a great potential to solve our most pressing health care concerns:  chronic diseases and costs spiraling ever upward out of control.

“ How?” you ask. Simple pimple.  Give the CDC Roughly twenty times its present public service announcing budget;  earmark an additional $1 billion for the nation’s public broadcasting stations and set as a national goal the reduction of deaths from chronic life-style caused deaths to 33% of the present numbers by 2025.  A worthy goal indeed.  What will be the main messages for the public broadcast stations and the CDC over private TV channels?

A.  Rajjpuut’s Seven Golden Rules of Health and the 35 extra-quality year connection**

B. Good sound nutrition based upon real science;  for example, the egg and the potato are really healthy foods when science looks at them;  dairy products are not of much use nutritionally for adults beyond say a couple slices of cheese a week for protein and a cup of yogurt daily (Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, it pains Rajjpuut to say this but it is nutritionally sound advice); fried foods and highly processed foods are anathema to good health.  Etc.  DIETING is uniformly unhealthy practice unless it means six things:  1) in conjunction with a moderately challenging aerobic program 2) one only chooses healthy and mostly fresh foods and 3) slightly diminishes the portions being eaten 4) over 3-4 generally tiny meals  after 5) a good large breakfast 6)certain “rabbit food” such as red cabbage, carrots, etc. be allowed at any time as a snack.

C. Recognition of emergency health conditions (excessive bleeding, shock, airway blockage, lack of pulse, poisoning, drowning, severe allergic reaction, etc.)

D. Exercise and stretching do’s and don’ts and constant encouragement to get started but start slow after seeing your doctor

E. Smoking cessation info

F. Info about abuse of prescription and non-prescription drug abuse and illegal drug abuse and the dangers associated with them and where to get quitting and help info

G. Numbers for contact with the CDC and local NHFs.

Basically then, the NHFs and the CDC and the public TV stations and PBS will be enlisted to carry out a crusade of reducing chronic deaths 67% in 15+ years.  To be more specific:  these people and instruments become tools for health education.  The two most important chronic conditions to eliminate are diabetes and obesity (especially morbid obesity).  We are on a crusade of disease prevention.  If you’ve read Rajjpuut’s health care blogs so far, you know that entering at stage one:  prevention is far less costly and far more effective than entering at stage four: disease treatment (which does NOT actually cure the underlying problem such as heart disease).  Right now 92% of the doctoring is concerned with stage four that needs to change immediately and we need to intervene in people’s lives positively now to ward off, undo and prevent chronic illnesses.

Rajjpuut once saw a fellow on a Richard Simons show who had lost 792 pounds and still looked a good fifty pounds overweight, but obviously he was working on that.  If  we start now, enormous good can be done at enormous savings.  More on diabetes and obesity in the next blog in this series.

Ya’all live long, strong and ornery,
Rajjpuut

** Add 35 QUALITY Years to Your Lifespan

Interested in adding 35 years of high quality living to your lifespan?
Here's how, and here's WOW!

If anything beside the spendthrifts in Washington, D.C., can derail the American Dream, it's the ever increasing cost of health care both to the nation at large and to the individual.  Roughly 72% of the price of a new American automobile is tied up in employee salary and benefits, especially health care.  In a very real sense, good health is a very personal matter . . . as the "Spider Man" movies remind us:  "With great power comes great responsibility,"  and you, the individual, certainly wield immense power in the battle for your own health, fitness, longevity and in avoiding high health care costs.

While working as a health educator for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas in 1977, I read about a recently-completed long-range study of vigorous older people.  The gist of it all came to this:  the University of California (Berkeley campus, I believe) extracted seven lifestyle practices that these hardy senior citizens tended to share as a group.  As for the study results, here's what those salubrious old folks had in common:

The Seven Golden Rules of Health

1.  Eat a very large healthy breakfast daily
2.  Regularly eat 3-4 smaller meals daily
3.  Maintain a healthy normal weight
4.  Avoid tobacco and drug use (and minimize over-the-counter remedies)
5.  Drink alcohol extremely moderately
6.  Sleep 7-8 hours nightly
7.  Practice regular vigorous exercise

The "magic" from the study came when UC extrapolated their finding out into the general populace.  They discovered that if they took two men, one aged 55 years old and the other 20 and compared their lifestyles . . . if the 20 year old practiced 0-1 of the "Seven Golden Rules" and the 55 year old practiced 6-7 of them:  the two men had the exact same life expectancy.  That is, it would be absolutely no surprise at all if they both dropped dead on the same day, say 28.2 years in the future.  I'm not sure what that means to you, but the 35 years difference between the two men is my personal definition of "quality of life."

Further studies by other groups have shown that when it comes to changes made before age 42, once the individual starts to practice the Seven Golden Rules . . . within eight years most of the harm from the prior twenty years of a dissipate lifestyle is gone.  That means, for example, quit smoking and follow the seven golden rules for eight years, and it's almost as if you've never smoked a day in your life.  Benefits from lifestyle changes after age 42, were less consistent but still quite significant.

A few comments are in order.  Buckling seatbelts was a fairly new idea at the time of the study.  If an eighth and ninth golden rule are needed which I would add from my experience as a health educator, they would be:

8.  Buckle-up in moving vehicles and always observe proper caution around machinery
9.  Avoid highly processed foods and fried foods and eat some high-fiber food daily

Rule #5 "Drink alcohol extremely moderately" deserves some discussion.  After a brief flirtation with boozing as a youngster, I myself rarely consume a six-pack a month these days, so that's what I practice and preach.  However, in the actual study the amount of liquor mentioned was "averaging one beer or glass of wine per day."  Over the years since the study, much has been made of the value of red wine in the diet.  All this implies that a little bit of alcohol is preferable to none at all.  If there is one area of the study that I would put in question it would be that conclusion.  Here's my "take" on the matter.  The trouble with saying that teetotalers are less healthy than extremely moderate drinkers comes in two areas:  A) a whole lot of teetotalers are reformed alcoholics who in many cases regrettably did great damage to their health prior to quitting drinking altogether and presumably shortened their probable lifespans in the process.  It is my intuition that IF the study had eliminated this effect from former alcoholics in its study, their fifth rule should have been:  "Rule #5 "Drink alcohol extremely moderately or not at all."  Additionally, from my experience I suspect that there are "overly pious personalities" out there who don't drink and resent everybody in the world who does . . . and in fact they deeply resent almost everybody in the world for any number of reasons.  If they were removed from the rolls of non-drinkers, I'm sure the non-drinkers would have averaged a longer life also.  So my last addition to the Golden Rules of Health is:

Rule #6 7/8  Have a sense of humor, relax

If on top of all this great advice, the individual, let us call him "Bill" takes charge of his own health and finds a health-conscious (rather than disease-oriented) doctor "muy simpatico" who believes that the purpose of wise medicine is to keep people hale-healthy, happy and out of his office . . .  and if Bill always seeks at least a second opinion in considering serious health care matters, then he and his doctors are part of the solution to the health care mess rather than part of problem.  If every company had a full roster of employees like Bill then health care costs and costs across the board would drop markedly starting now.

World Laughingstock, our FDA Rant #12

Attacking nutrient supplements, FDA always claims “not enough evidence they’re safe;” when defending drugs they’ve let wallow onto the shelves “there’s never enough evidence to prove they’re dangerous” . . . regardless of all the deaths they cause.

No Drug Too Deadly for Approval

and Continued FDA Backing

Many Americans find it difficult to believe that the FDA is a corrupt agency. Well “blatantly corrupt” is the mildest term appropriate for the FDA. As Rajjpuut has been saying all along through the eleven earlier anti-FDA rants, we know that health care change is coming this summer . . . if they only make one change let it be wholesale radical elimination or total reform of the Food and Drug Administration. The outrages continue to mount: Ritalin, Celebrex, Avandia . . . Thalidomide is back again approved by the FDA (Rajjpuut does not make these things up) despite the horrendous birth defects it instigated in the 60’s. COX-2 inhibitors are allowed again despite 60,000 deaths according to the British Journal of Medicine evaluating the FDA advisory panels decision. The online website naturalnews.com put it this way:

The fact that a single COX-2 drug has reportedly killed more Americans than the entire Vietnam War is apparently not sufficient for the FDA to characterize it as unsafe.

“With this decision, a ‘ full safety approval’ by the FDA has now become meaningless. If the agency can put its stamp of public safety approval on a drug that has killed tens of thousands of Americans and that was removed from the market by its own manufacturer following the revelation of studies showing alarming increases in heart attack risk, then what, pray tell, could possibly be the FDA's definition of a dangerous drug?

“For the FDA to consider a drug dangerous, it apparently has to kill more than 60,000 Americans. I'm curious what threshold must be reached before the FDA actually does its job and seeks to protect the U.S. public. Do 250,000 people have to die before the FDA calls a drug unsafe? 500,000 people? How about a million people?”

There can no longer be any doubt whatsoever about the FDA's true purpose. Regardless of what the agency publicly states, when it comes time to make key decisions about the safety of U.S. consumers, the FDA will side with drug companies every time. We've seen it time and time again: with the FDA's reluctance to pull obviously dangerous drugs off the market in a timely fashion (Rezulin, for example), with the FDA's attempts to silence its own drug safety scientists (censorship of Dr. David Graham, for example), and with the FDA's collusion with drug companies in suppressing clinical trials and other forms of evidence that raise safety questions about prescription drugs. Corruption runs deep at the FDA, it seems.

“This decision with Vioxx and other COX-2 inhibitors was a defining moment for the U.S. Fraud and Drug Administration. It was a moment where the agency could have sided with public safety and held fast to a position of responsibility and ethics. Instead, it chose to favor drug company profits and put its stamp of approval on a class of drugs that is arguably the most deadly drugs ever to hit the open market.

“A sane, ethical FDA would have not only banned COX-2 inhibitors outright, it would have put an end to direct-to-consumer advertising that ultimately led to the over-hyping and over-prescribing of these painkillers in the first place.”

Well said. The FDA does not even appear to be even making a pretense of doing the job it was created for. This once proud federal agency created immediately after the outcry following Upton Sinclair’s novel expose` “The Jungle” outraged the public in 1906 to demand protection from business charlatans in the food and drug industries. Nsaids, as a class are among the most dangerous, least necessary, most expensive and most hyped of any class of drugs.   COX-2 inhibitors are easily the most dangerous of the Nsaids.  Attacking nutrient supplements, FDA always claims “not enough evidence they’re safe;” when defending drugs they’ve let wallow onto the shelves “there’s never enough evidence to prove they’re dangerous” . . . regardless of all the deaths they cause.  This is one dozen rants now . . . the story ought to be clear.  Defend yourself from the protection of the FDA.

If the citizens of America with all the wealth of information about this most corrupt of agencies continue to stand for it, then they deserve the fruits of FDA decadence heaped upon them. Rajjpuut hopes we are a better more alert and informed people and will rise up and contact our elected officials about this most corrupt evil empire in our midst: The FDA.

Ya’all live long, strong and ornery,

Rajjpuut

Hypocrisy, Thy Name is FDA Rant #10

“General Mills, You believed our lies? Shame on you! We’ll bust you to private!”

Hypocritical FDA Scolds Cheerios

for Cholesterol Claim

In this series of rants against the ultra-corrupt FDA (Food and Drug Administration), Rajjpuut’s premise is that since health care change is coming almost certainly this summer . . . if there were only one improvement that could be made in the American health care mess, that would be to eliminate or totally revamp the FDA. Here we see the FDA at their very hypocritical worst . . . .

The FDA, approver of the poisonous substances Ritalin and Celebrex which has refused to remove either one of those killer drugs from the market after FDA exaggerations of the two drugs' safety proved to be absolutely erroneous, has attacked cereal maker General Mills for revealing their scientific study showing Cheerios reduces cholesterol 4%.   “Only FDA approved drugs are allowed to make such claims,” is the official FDA lie, ‘er line, on the issue. General Mills, You believed our lies? Shame on you! We’ll bust you to private!

Staying true to form, the FDA which is single-handedly most responsible for boosting iatrogenic deaths in America into 4th place among all deaths (iatrogenic deaths are those caused by medicines and medical treatment) in the nation, fails to mention that the simple fact is this: less than 47% of those who die from heart attacks have elevated cholesterol. The 33 year old lie that high cholesterol brings heart attacks makes statins (cholesterol  lowering drugs) the most profitable of all the billion dollar drug bonanzas in American history for the huge pharmaceutical companies and has probably killed, maimed and injured more Americans than all of our war dead from all the wars in our history, while costing individuals and the government hundreds of billions of dollars for these expensive, dangerous drugs that cure nothing and arguably make strokes much more probable.

The FDA, which has not shown the courage to attack big food or big drug companies for their improprieties; or to stand up to its sister in corruption the USDA, has however a proven track record for attacking health food stores and individual doctors who have the temerity to prescribe vitamins, minerals or other nutrients for some of their patients’ problems and the FDA now is attacking the most popular semi-healthy cereal in the nation. CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! It makes me so proud to be an American.

In hypocrisy of the highest audacity, the FDA goes on to say, “. . . Companies that make claims about their whole grain foods are supposed to mention that fruits and vegetables are also part of a fiber-rich diet” which Cheerios does not.    Why are they doing this? Imagine if Cheerios improves its product some day and can say confidently after confirmation from say fifteen studies, “Cheerios reduces elevated cholesterol an average of 32% with a nine week period.” If that were to happen and the statement were true, than there would be clinical study information backing the idea that food can make you healthy: a claim that the FDA adamantly (but wrongly) refutes, “There has never been a supplement or a food that has been proven to cure any disease.”

Now you and I know that if the doctors find after a few days in the hospital that all your horrendous symptoms show that you have scurvy, they’re NOT going to start feeding you 16 oranges and citrus fruits every day. No, they will probably give you about twelve to fifteen times the RDA of Vitamin C tablets . . . but the FDA statement denies that, denies the experiences of Captain Cook and the epithet “limies” given to British sailors;  denies the Nobel Prize of Linus Pauling; and denies the recent Nobel Prize of Louis Ignarro. The FDA protects the food industry and its lies; the FDA protects the drug industry and its lies; the FDA protects itself and its own lies . . . the FDA attacks those whose products have never been proven to do anybody any harm when used in proper dosage. The FDA is a major cause of America’s health problems and needs to step out of the way, change or blow themselves up.  The FDA, once a great agency created in response to Upton Sinclair's monumental novel expose` "The Jungle" in 1906 certainly will not protect the American people.

Ya’ll live long, strong and ornery,

Rajjpuut

FDA Rant Time #6

The FDA has issued several statements at various times in their history that "no supplement has ever been
proven to cure any disease or heal any medical condition."  Amazing that they've never heard of Vitamin C
and scurvy; of Linus Pauling's Nobel Prize; or Louis Ignarro's Nobel Prize.

The FDA Goes Out of Its Way

to Protect the Drug Companies

from Healthier Alternatives

President Obama's new health care system (if it comes) is doomed to failure at huge expense, personal-
healthwise and economically to the country . . .  as we mentioned in Rants #4 and #5, there are four main
reasons why:

A.    Government spending programs seldom work.

B.     The two earlier programs, Medicare and Medicaid, did not help and only made health and cost trends
already in place much worse.

C.    And mostly because, the President is NOT expected to address FDA re-organization or clean up in his
new program: huge mistake, HUGE!

D.    Additionally, as far as is known, the President is not expected to address a single one of the points
brought up by health educator Rajjpuut in his blog series “A Far Better Health Care Alternative.”

As shown clearly in Rant #5, American medical scientists have time and time again concluded
research underlining that there is absolutely NO need for new drugs that mask pain but do not help cure the
underlying problems. The problem has been made infinitely worse because now drug companies are allowed to
legally "bribe"** the FDA to rush their newest dangerous concoctions right out into the marketplace and FDA
philosophy has deteriorated since 1990.  In that year, 58% of the drugs studied were approved; today about
83% of studied drugs are approved.  In 1990 only 5% of the brand new to the world drugs were approved; today
2/3 of these brand new drugs never before used in any other country now receive FDA approval:  an anguishing
1300% rise in approval of untested drugs.  The combination of rapid (bribed) approval; loose overall
approval habits and ultra-loose sanctions on brand-new drugs has made the American health scene a dangerous
place for patients when given an Rx from their doctor.

The FDA seems to go out of its way to protect the drug companies from potentially healthier, less
expensive, and less dangerous competitors.  Why else would the FDA have issued several statements at various
times in their history that "no supplement has ever been proven to cure any disease or heal any medical
condition."  Amazing that they've never heard of Vitamin C and scurvy; of Linus Pauling's Nobel Prize; or
Louis Ignarro's Nobel Prize.

Even though there are virtually no instances of medical PROBLEMS caused by nutrients (vitamins,
minerals, etc.) when taken in recommended dosages but combined millions of DEATHS, DEFORMITIES, illnesses
and INJURIES caused by "proper" dosages of prescription medicines . . . nevertheless, the FDA has attacked
natural ingredients and natural nutrients producers and stores with an incredible vehemence especially,
it seems, nutrients which have performed very well in scientific studies such as DHEA, DMSO, hydrogen
peroxide and food grade hydrogen peroxide.  Natural ingredients being far less expensive, and having no
side effects for people not allergic to them are serious rivals to drugs.  The drug companies have no
motivation, for their part, to feature any "natural ingredient" because no natural ingredients are
patentable.

The FDA seemingly attacks all enemies or competitors of the big pharmaceutical companies:  vitamin
stores; doctors who routinely prescribe vitamin or nutrient regimens; natural whole-grain diet breads and
diet cereals; homemade diet soups, etc., etc., much more eagerly than it applies pressure to the drug
companies themselves.  Where are the deaths? deformities, illnesses and injuries that justify that kind
of scrutiny?  Why don't they do the math  and do their jobs instead and protect Americans from the
irresponsible drug companies?  I think the folks who created the FDA in 1906 must be rolling over in their
graves seeing the Frankenstein monster their once great agency has degenerated into.  If for no other reason,
the number of iatrogenic deaths, deformities, injuries and illnesses today's drugs have visited upon the
unsuspecting American public give them sufficient excuse to continue rolling around in those graves for the
next 100 years.

            At the FDA they’ve long forgotten it’s the public health they’re in the business of protecting;
and the public they’re supposed to be serving but the President, congress, and the American Public needs to
remember that key fact RIGHT NOW!  The first necessary step in any health care change is to UNDO, REDO and
UNcorrupt the FDA.

Live long, strong and ornery,
Rajjpuut

**   the correct term is "bribe" but the FDA calls them "expedited evaluations" or "expedited reviews"

Regular readers of Rajjpuut’s little rants will recognize a strong personal antipathy toward the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). That once great organization created in 1906, the very year that Upton Sinclair’s monumental novel/expose` “The Jungle” hit the bookstore shelves, has degenerated into the most corrupt federal organization in America. Rajjpuut, health educator he, believes that only a complete top-to-bottom remake of the FDA will allow any health care plan, now or in the future, any hope of success.

FDA Rant Time #5

The  33-year old high cholesterol lie is the most profitable charade in the history of medicine, it makes all the quack medicine salesman ever known look like Honest Abe.

Americans believe health comes in drug bottles and the few in the medical community who know differently (they ALL should but are hypnotized by drug claims) aren’t advertising the truth.

At the FDA they’ve long forgotten it’s the public they’re supposed to be serving.

Drug Culture Created by the FDA

and Big Pharmaceutical Companies

Costs Government Programs Heavily

Obama plans to put a new health care system in place doomed to failure at huge expense, personal-healthwise and economically to the country . . .  as we mentioned in rant #4, there are four main reasons why:

A.    Government spending programs seldom work.

B.     The two earlier programs, Medicare and Medicaid, did not help and only made health and cost trends already in place much worse.

C.    And mostly because, the President is NOT expected to address FDA re-organization or clean up in his new program: huge mistake, HUGE!

D.    Additionally, as far as is known, the President is not expected to address a single one of the points brought up by health educator Rajjpuut in his blog series “A Far Better Health Care Alternative.”

American medical scientists have time and time again concluded research that underlines the simple fact that there is absolutely NO need for new drugs that mask pain but do not help cure the underlying problems. There are enough old pain medications at large, and the newer ones are just far more expensive and much, much more dangerous. But the drug companies keep cranking them out and despite the best medical advice ever known (First Do No Harm!), the FDA keeps approving them. The pure cost in money; the cost in iatrogenic ailments (problems caused my errors from doctors, nurses or the hospital itself; or by reactions to medicine) in money and lives; and the cost to the U.S. government all demand that the FDA deny approval to about 90-95% of all such drugs.

However, the FDA in its inanity and corruption (see Rajjpuut’s earlier FDA rants) doesn’t even deny approval to 10% of these dangerous new concoctions. Year after year the list of horrendous side-effects for new medications we hear advertised on TV grows longer and more virulent.

Drug companies then go out of their way to see that their dangerous, expensive concoctions become popular:

A.      Nurses are paid by drug companies for using their products when they have that discretionary power

B.      Schools get paid thousands of dollars monthly for every child they help get prescribed for psychiatric drugs like Prozac or Ritalin.

C.      Doctors routinely get visited by drug sales men with huge amounts of literature “pushing” their drugs and even kickback offers and bonus offers if certain “quotas” are

 met

D.      A, B, and C above are clearly abuses that endanger the patients and the government’s coffers. The FDA which has the power to stop A, B, and C above from happening

never does anything . . . never.

The biggest abuse of all, however, is that drug companies routinely pay scientists and doctors on government advisory panels to recommend their drugs. And often the payments even come for recommending their drugs in front of FDA evaluation hearings and the FDA condones the practice.

Drug companies can now legally bribe** the FDA to hasten their drugs onto the market.

It’s all a huge pack of lies, deceit, shady practices and outright corruption that endangers the public and costs the government immense amounts of money every second of every day. The FDA knows but will not tell you that:

A.      An aspirin a day makes strokes much more likely

B.      Almost all sunscreens cause cancer but don’t do much to prevent skin cancer (since sunscreens have become common, American skin cancer rates have risen dramatically, far worse than people under the tropic sun typically encounter)

C.      Lowering cholesterol does nothing to stop heart attacks.  The 33-year old high-cholesterol lie is the most profitable charade in the history of medicine making all the quack medicine salesmen ever known look like Honest Abe.

D.      Estrogen therapy is an extraordinarily dangerous practice.

E.       Roughly 60% of the most frequently prescribed drugs for the elderly are found on lists of drugs NOT to be given to elderly persons.

F.       Every prescription drug has dangerous side effects, nevertheless 20% of them have NO printed warnings on the packaging.

G.      Average Americans consume fifty pounds worth of prescription, non-prescription, and over the counter drugs every year (400 times more than Rajjpuut does!)

H.      People who don’t need drugs are now going into their doctors and demanding certain drugs they’ve seen advertised on TV.

I.        Iatrogenic disease (caused by medicines and medical treatment is now the 3rd or 4th

largest cause of death and dangerous medicines are a prime cause of them. You are ten times more likely to go to the hospital for a prescription drug reaction and four times more likely to die than if you had an automobile accident.

J.        The FDA could IMMEDIATELY stop every one of these sad situations, the FDA does nothing!

At the FDA they’ve long forgotten it’s the public health they’re in the business of protecting; and the public they’re supposed to be serving but the President, congress, and the American Public needs to remember that key fact RIGHT NOW!

The first necessary step in any health care change is to UNDO, REDO and UNcorrupt the FDA.

FDA Rant Time #4

At the FDA they’ve long forgotten it’s the public they’re supposed to be serving.

The Hippocratic Oath says, “First Do No Harm” . . . indicating that 90% of the time, doctors could be sued for malpractice for prescribing drugs they know can do enormous harm according to the official list of side effects.

Drug Culture Created by the FDA

and Big Pharmaceutical Companies

Endangers Citizen’s Health

We all know that Obama plans to put a new health care system in place. Most of us know that it’s doomed to failure at huge expense, (personally and economically) to the country . . . here are the reasons why:

A.    Government spending programs seldom work.

B.     The two earlier programs, Medicare and Medicaid, did not help and only made health and cost trends already in place much worse.

C.    And mostly because, the President is NOT expected to address FDA re-organization or FDA clean up in his new program: huge mistake, HUGE!

D.    Additionally, as far as is known, the President is not expected to address a single one of the points brought up by health educator Rajjpuut in his blog series “A Far Better Health Care Alternative.”

The Hippocratic Oath, which doctors swear to, says “First Do No Harm” . . . since study after study indicates that 70% of the expensive drugs Americans take actually have “no effect,” and all drugs created, that means 100% of them, have proven and listed side effects: arguably from 90%-100% of instances when a doctor prescribes a drug for a patient, he is at least technically, if not in fact, breaking the Hippocratic Oath. America is a drug culture. People believe health and happiness comes in bottles. The information found in this paragraph is highlighted because of whistle-blowers who in study after study say that internal memos and other documents generated by the drug companies themselves reveal pretty much those same two sad statistics.

When it’s also considered that a huge percentage of drugs are only designed to mask or alleviate symptoms but NOT to cure any underlying conditions and all these drugs too have annoying, dangerous and/or deadly side effects . . . the magnitude of the problem becomes clear. The FDA, by approving these palliatives and their side effects is making America’s health problems worse. The fact that drug companies now have the option to legally bribe** the FDA to expedite putting the drugs on the market has exacerbated an already horrendous problem.

Additionally, consider this . . . the FDA has known for over thirty years that high cholesterol levels are NOT associated with heart attacks and that lowering cholesterol does NOT cure any actual medical condition;  yet they say nothing to the American health care industry, refuse to remove the drugs from circulation and thus continue to help the drug companies rip off the American public.  It's one of their biggest shams because statins (cholesterol lowering drugs) are some of the most dangerous, very expensive and totally unnecessary drugs.  "First Do No Harm!"

PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) likewise are drugs for no real disease.  So-called “Acid Reflux Disease” is an invention of the drug companies. If you have persistent heart burn, nine times out of ten you have too little stomach acid NOT too much. PPI’s actually make virtually all heartburn problems worse and they have recently been proved addictive. Taken with over-prescribed anti-biotics, PPIs can decimate the healthy stomach biota and create a horrendous and deadly dysenteric condition called “c. dificile” which kills older Americans quite frequently.   And PPIs are strongly suspected of causing serious bronchitis and even pneumonia.   "First Do No Harm!"

Need Rajjpuut mention that statins are the single most profitable drugs of all time and PPIs are very nearly as profitable?????? Of course a more horrendous example of FDA corruption is the conflict of interest that lead to the Celebrex (used for osteoarthritis; rheumatoid arthritis and painful menstruation) disaster in the first place and that same conflict of interest has kept that deadly drug on the market right up to the present moment with extra warnings added to its packaging. “First Do No Harm,” indeed!

Depending upon who’s doing the study, iatrogenic deaths (death caused by medicines; doctors’ and nurses’ errors; hospital errors; etc.) rank as either the third or fourth greatest killers of Americans: “First Do No Harm” indeed!! And the biggest danger lies in the medicines themselves . . . every single one of them approved by the FDA. You are ten times more likely to enter a hospital and three and a half times more likely to die because of a prescription drug reaction then from an automobile accident. The root of a huge percentage of the American health care mess is 100% linked to the evil we call the FDA.  "First Do No Harm!"

At the FDA they’ve long forgotten it’s the public they’re supposed to be serving but the President, congress, and the American Public needs to remember that key fact RIGHT NOW!  President Obama, FIRST DO NO HARM:  re-organize and clean up the FDA before making any other health care change!

FDA Rant Time #3

FDA = Frequently Disguised Avarice

At the FDA it’s not considered “conflict of interest” if the public doesn’t know

At more than 90% of evaluation and recommendation meetings at least one member has a conflict of interest

American Citizens’ Best Interest

is NO Concern of the FDA

Before a drug is approved for the public the FDA will listen to a presentation by the drug manufacturer and then listen to expert witnesses.  Federal law prohibits the FDA use experts with financial stakes riding on the FDA decisions. According to NY Times Best-selling author Kevin Trudeau, however, this is a rule that is quite commonly waived.  Trudeau says that the FDA keeps these meetings secret as well as which companies are involved, what the nature of the conflict is, and how much money may be involved. Your tax dollars at work protecting you!  Rajjpuut has heard that waiving the conflict of interest rule might happen nine or ten times a month. Reuters and USA Today has run articles that imply a far greater degree of financial involvement than that, however -- that well over half the experts the FDA calls upon for testimony have a direct financial interest in the drugs or subject matter being evaluated. With stock ownerships, grant money, consulting charges or other incentives involved, Rajjpuut believes that if three times in every hundred instances the “expert” testified against his own best financial interests that would be very surprising.

At the FDA what the public doesn’t know, can’t hurt them (“them” being the FDA). According to Trudeau, once the experts have been heard from (and there’s only one side represented in 85% of instances) it’s very rare that the FDA rules against their advice in broad general matters. If a specific drug is the subject of evaluation, the FDA appears far less biased: at these meetings only 30% of the experts on average have financial conflicts.

Does this “unbiased” FDA evaluation process work? Listen to the extensive list of side effects that get mentioned every time some drug is advertised on the air. And what happens when the side-effects are truly dangerous or even deadly? The FDA very seldom “pulls” a drug from the market. Instead they typically recommend including another warning on the packaging. Before 1990 less than 60% of drugs were approved today it’s over 80%. Before 1990 about 5% of the drugs approved by the FDA were brand new to the world. Since 1998 the FDA has made enormous amounts of fees approving drugs, 2/3 of them first-time drugs on the market. It is now also considered part of doing business normally for the drug company to legally bribe** the FDA to conclude it’s business much faster than unbribed examinations take.

The Celebrex story is one of the most infamous of FDA approved drug debacles, Celebrex is still on the market despite a horrendous record with deaths and injuries. Despite this when it was reviewed the FDA recommended it stay on the market.  According to Kevin Trudeau virtually every advisory panel member profited from the decision to keep it on the market. Statins (cholesterol lowering drugs) are dangerous, expensive and amount to a virtual life-subscription. Guess what? Only 47% of the people who die from heart attacks have elevated cholesterol readings.  The FDA was aware of studies showing that cholesterol had no cause-effect relationship with heart attacks back in 1976. For several years the FDA allowed eggs to be attacked as dangerous causes of high cholesterol and to this day allows drug companies to sell dangerous, expensive statins with utter impunity.

Acid Reflux medicines (proton pump inhibitors) are potions without a real disease. 90% of the time when heartburn strikes, the cause is too little acid, not too much. Acid reflux medicine actually makes heartburn worse.

Rajjpuut wants to puke when he thinks about the FDA and its horrendous corruption, but he’s afraid someone might give him some FDA recommended medicine – oh no!

Rajjpuut

FDA Rant Time #2

Consumers know less about expensive bottled water than about free tap water:  a $16 billion industry.
"FDA . . . Foul, Disgusting Agency" doesn't say the half of it.  No more corrupt government entity has ever turned upon the citizens of this country.

Unlike ordinary free tap water which is monitored by the EPA, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) monitors bottled water.  As usual that's very bad news.

Some popular brands of bottled water have had their bottles voluntarily recalled three times?  Since recalls have been monitored that's happened over a hundred different times.  Have you ever been notified?  Ever heard a news story about that?  Did you know that next to plastic shopping bags, bottled water containers are one of the very biggest environmental headaches of our time?  Did you know that many popular brands are contaminated with phthalates, a chemical used to make plastic softer which disrupts the human endocrine system.  Did you realize that many bottled waters are less safe than free tap water?  That many of them basically are free tap water?   That despite their claims of health advantages, none has ever been proved.
Looking at one of the biggest issues more closely, phthalates besides being a disaster for the endocrine system in general is a holocaust for male fetuses.  Malformed reproductive organs, undescended testes and low sperm counts later in life are all suspected results of ptthalates contamination at high levels.  The bottles themselves do NOT contain the chemical phthalates, surprisingly enough.  The contaminants are suspected of entry into the water during processing at bottling plants or perhaps were present in the original water source.  Phthalates has even found contaminating some tap waters.

Since the FDA refuses to give oversight to water bottled and sold within a state, including those huge water-cooler jugs you see in every office . . . so 2/3 of all bottled water has NO FDA oversight.  The FDA has less than one full-time person per state monitoring this sixteen billion dollar industry.  Many bottling plants are not inspected even yearly.  The manufacturers are not required to let customers know about recalls, and they don't.  Mold, crickets, coliform bacteria, microbes and, of course, super high levels so phthalates are all reasons for some of the hundred plus recalls since 1992.  Enjoy your drink!

So the FDA which has the resources to make raids on the office's of doctors suspected of prescribing GASP! vitamins, minerals and other nutrients; and also on health food stores . . . has no interest in looking at our bottled water.  But, of course, it all makes sense in a perverted sort of FDA way . . . .

A Far Better Health Care Alternative Part Zero

The American health care system is the most expensive in the world.  One reason for this:  it is among the most ineffective in the world.

Individual Americans need to take control of their own destinies and health.

Understanding the problems with the American health system is like understanding the problems with the Church's stand that the moon, sun, planets, stars and all heavenly bodies circled the earth.

Rajjpuut's Far Better Health

Care Alternative:  Part Zero

Before we get into the nitty-gritty let's take an anecdotal look at just what's wrong with American health care:

Mr. Obama and the Politicians aligned with him are looking to throw more money at the American health care system, already the most expensive in the world.  One reason for this, it is our system is among the most ineffective in the world.  Medicare and Medicaid were earlier versions of the idea that government spending can cure the nation's health and health care system problems.  They failed, they only made the system in place more expensive and less effective.  Mr. Obama's newer version will do the same.  All the present health care fallacies and weaknesses are poised to bankrupt the country as the baby boomer generation here in the U.S., the fattest, most out of shape and unhealthiest group of people the world has known@@: reaches traditional retirement age.  Americans are nowhere near the longest-lived persons, and mother and infant mortality is not close to the best in the wold to point out two of the more glaring weaknesses in our system.

The problems with American's health, per se, can readily be shown to come from two sources:  A.  The patient himself, Americans need to take control of their own destinies and health^^.   B.  The American Medical Association and its doctors.  The problems with inefficiency and counter-productivity (and the enormous associated costs) are associated with the 1. AMA and the doctors, but also with other institutions associated with the American health care system such as 2. HMOs, the 3. pharmaceutical companies, the 4. food companies and primarily with the 5.FDA overseer of the pharmaceutical companies and the food companies.  Unless these institutions dramatically alter "business as usual," expense and inefficiency will continue to increase and likely accelerate under any program Mr. Obama creates.

How can I say all this?  My name is Bob, I'm a health educator and I've had experience putting in place a program for Blue Cross and Blue Shiield of Kansas roughly three decades back that controlled costs, kept people healthier, educated them about health and reassured them about their health care decisions.  I now live in Colorado.

Understanding the problems today in the American health care system is a lot like understanding the problems with the Church's stand that the moon, sun, planets, stars and all heavenly bodies circled the earth.  That's how far out of balance the system has gotten.  The system is run by profit, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but all the incentives that are now in place reward inefficiency, corruption and ignorance.  Let me give you an example of some major health issues in the United States right now, mind you, this is the tip of the iceberg:

The American Medical Association is the equivalent of the Spanish Inquisition.  They decide treatment orthodoxy and treatment heresy.  In their typical authoritarian fashion, they have made the following decisions which canNOT be questioned with impunity, Doctors who treat patients by unorthodox methods can be severely punished:

A.  Autoimmunity diseases are common (many times a virus is suspected, such as the HIV Virus we all know about, but none has been located in at least 60 of the instances) and as of right now there are 60+ auto-immune disease recognized or provisionally-recognized by the AMA.  Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Crohn's Disease are examples of "auto-immune diseases" according to AMA dogma.

B.  Auto-immune diseases can only be treated by physicians with prescribed potions, pills, powders, injections, etc.  Treating these diseases with other approaches such as diet modification is not approved by the AMA.

C.  Patients are thus given a life-sentence with an incurable disease in which only the symptoms can be treated, not the disease itself, while undergoing a lifelong regimen of expensive and often dangerous medicines and treatments.

D.  Three questions naturally arise from all this:

1.  Is the AMA correct?  (there are huge doubts)
2.  Even if the AMA is correct, is this best for the patient? and equally important . . . .
3.  Is this most efficient (cost-wise) for the system?

Remembering that we're only talking about the "tip of the iceberg here"  and the problems are much deeper and more extensive and entangled with corruption (as this series intends to show), let's quickly look at two of the most well-known "auto-immune" diseases:  lupus (in passing) and multiple sclerosis (and incidentally at cancer as well).

I can talk about lupus "in passing" because that problem has already been largely solved (as a well-known conservative voice, Robert Ringer explains in talking about Max Gerson's dietary modification methods) as well as much of the cancer problem** but since the AMA has rejected these ideas for roughly 60 years without testing, virtually no Americans know about them.  Of course the fact that these methods are inexpensive and not likely to make any doctors rich probably played no small part in the AMA's UNwillingness to explore them.   Heretical organizations like Cancer Treatment Centers of America repeatedly cure "incurable" cancers  by using a combination of certain conventional treatments (AMA approved) and holistic treatments based primarily on diet modification.

Most importantly many auto-immune conditions like lupus and rheumatiod arthritis are eliminated or PREVENTED by  good diets or by diet modifications. HOW MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE FOR THE SYSTEM AND HOW MUCH BETTER FOR THE PATIENT IF THE DISEASE NEVER EVEN OCCURS?   This is the equivalent of NOT starting smoking for 7/8 of the American populace.  If you never start smoking, that alone will dramatically reduce your chances of ever getting lung cancer.  If on top of that you avoid mining and several other high-risk occupations as well, then your chances of getting lung cancer drop to about a third of one percent.  Enough on cancer and  lupus . . . . let's look at Multiple Sclerosis (MS) . . .  no disease in America shows the "superstitious self-serving nature" of the AMA moreso then MS.  Because the AMA has established that the sun orbits the earth no further questioning is required . . . . bah, humbug, if they won't do science, Rajjpuut will!

I'm from Colorado, that’s important as you’ll see soon. Seven years ago my now ex-wife was diagnosed with MS. About 9-10 months back another friend also was told she had the disease. I found myself, once again, reading everything I could find on the internet and in libraries, etc. about Multiple Sclerosis. My first reaction after even the slightest bit of reading was that American medicine’s lumping of MS into the auto-immune category was mighty convenient for the drug manufacturers: patients become lifetime subscribers of risky, expensive medicine that will not cure them (since it’s their own body’s immune system that’s attacking them) and they'll have no recourse but to take them till they die:  now there are 60 such diseases. This seems a very nihilistic and unscientific approach. The very essence of science is asking the right questions, but MS had been conveniently lumped into a category by the authority of the AMA where no further questioning was permitted.  I determined to do exactly what science would require: ask lots of questions. To date the doctors and medical journals won’t listen to them, but here are my 15 Key questions regarding MS:

1. Why is Colorado the highest U.S. state for MS per capita?

2. What factors make Colorado Springs the highest incident large city in the highest incident state?

3. Why do women suffer from MS at a rate roughly 2-4 times as great as men?

4. Why is MS less prevalent on the coasts?

5. Why is MS far more prevalent in urban settings than in rural areas?

The questions get more technical from hereon :  feel free to skip down to qustions #14 and #15 and the answers if you're overwhelmed . . . .

6. Stickiness of blood platelets has been repeatedly confirmed in MS patients; aberrations in bone marrow has been confirmed for MS victims; why?

7.   The percentage of lineoleic acid found in the blood of MS patients is far lower than that in unaffected persons, furthermore patients suffering the most recent deterioration in their condition show the greatest drop in lineolic acid levels which was also true, to a lesser extent of those in the most advanced stages of the disease.  Why?

8. Central Nervous System Dilators pioneered as an MS treatment during the 1950’s by Bayard Horton of the Mayo Clinic were apparently quite successful with few or no side effects in relieving acute attacks promptly and often prevented progression? Why?

9. MRI examinations today frequently depict a lack of correlation between symptoms and lesions in MS (often called the “clinico-radiological paradox). What’s going on? If demyelination is the fundamental essential lesion in multiple sclerosis, why is there often no correlation?

10. Trials of sex hormones show they improve lesions as well as symptoms and L-arginine, zinc and magnesium supplements also seem to lesson symptoms. Why?

11. What role do deficiencies of endothelial and neuronal nitric oxide and elevated levels of inducible nitric oxide play in MS? Is this symptomatic or causal?

12. Is better detection the only reason MS incidence has risen so dramatically in the last 40 years, or is some environmental factor exacerbating the situation?

13. What about the “brain leak” theory of MS? That theory says free hemoglobin scavenges nitric oxide avidly, which may create deficiencies especially in the central nervous system, with its greater vasodilator tone. Could depletion of endothelial nitric oxide shift blood from the arterial circulation to the venous circulation in MS sufferers as in diabetics? Could multiple sclerosis result from too little blood in arteries and arterioles leading to vasospastic symptoms? Meanwhile could too much blood in veins and venules lead to blood-brain barrier leakage and lesions?

14. Is there any logical reason for continued loyalty by many to the idea that MS is an anti-immune condition?

15. Is there one over-arching theory that might explain all these factors?

The more I read, the more certain I become that these questions needed to be explained and understood.

An obvious main or, at least, exacerbating factor seems to jump out from the first eight questions: OXYGEN! The clearest correlation for Question #1 is that higher altitudes = lower oxygen## levels. Colorado is the state with the highest average altitude among the 50 states. As far as Question #2, Colorado Springs, the 49th largest city in the country, is easily the highest large metropolitan area in the country roughly 750 ft. (14%) higher than “Mile-High” Denver.

The correlation continues with Question #3, Women’s bodies and their unique chemistry may make them far more vulnerable than men to MS for any number of reasons, but exploring the OXYGEN HYPOTHESIS among women more deeply . . . women tend to be smaller and society until recently encouraged female physical fitness far less than it did male activity so generally speaking females are less efficient VO max processors than men. Additionally, hemoglobin and iron are more problematical in females during their menses which makes females more likely sufferers of anemia again potentially lessening oxygen-use efficiency. A factor which I've also noticed and which may not have any bearing on the issue is that females are about eight or nine times more likely than man at any given moment to be engaged in dieting, skipping breakfast and sometimes fad dieting that is just plain nonsensical health-wise . . . which could spark nutrient deficiencies. I've seen nothing about dieting, eating 3-5 regular meals daily, good nutrition, or having a good breakfast in the MS literature, but common sense says, good habits are important and could play a role.

Question #4, the coasts, are by definition, found at sea level hence, lower than 99.9999% of the inland areas of the country with more oxygen available. Additionally, coastal diet is far more likely to include fish with its attendant fish oil (deficiencies implicated in Alzheimer’s, high blood pressure and heart attacks) which aids in oxygen processing.

Question #5, people in rural areas are less likely to face high levels of air pollution (smog) than city dwellers. In particular: diesel fumes, ground level ozone contamination and INHALED nitric oxide contamination are brutal every day facts of life in our largest cities. (By the way: INHALED nitric oxide is confusing in many respects to the layman. A. it is NOT nitrous oxide (laughing gas) once used as anesthetic. B. Our bodies naturally create nitric oxide and it is one of the most important gases found in our blood stream (as reflected in the Nobel Prize for Medicine awarded to Dr. Louis Ignarro) which we will discuss later as it relates to MS. C. Many people realize that nitric oxide is also an important negative component of tobacco smoke. In any case, the obvious effect of air pollution is less oxygen allowed to reach the lungs, heart, brain and every cell of the human body than one would expect from clear, pure country air.

Questions #6 and #7 It’s the blood cells that carry oxygen throughout the body and brain and specifically the red blood cells. It is the bone marrow where blood is made.  Any problems with the blood including abnormal lipid and other levels could affect the body’s ability to process oxygen.

Question #8 Peter Good’s thought-provoking website on nitric oxide and MS seems to indicate that there was great success with the CNS vasodilator histamine diphosphate during the late 40's, the 50's and 60's. Today’s “fashion” calls for different meds with greater potential for dangerous side effects. CNS vasodilation with histamine not only consistently relieved a disease now thought to be incurable, it thereby demonstrated that its fundamental lesion may be something entirely different from demyelination???

Having looked at Questions #1-8, that let's examine Question #14, Is there any logical reason for continued loyalty by many to the idea that MS is an anti-immune condition? As a result we regard MS today as incurable because its primary lesion is thought to be relatively irreversible disintegration of myelin sheaths in the brain and spinal cord. That thought pattern has been in place for roughly 50 years. Neurologists who successfully treated MS with vasodilators thought the lesion was REVERSIBLE because the underlying cause – a diminished blood supply in the brain and cord (leading to oxygen lack there) was treatable. Because of the auto-immune assumption, workable theories and workable treatments (and cures?) have been relegated to the trash heap. Certainly some MS cases have reversed, documented cases with lightning strikes, for example, bringing temporary or in rarer cases, permanent reversal of MS. How lightning could ever "re-myelinize" the nervous system is a mystery even beyond the question of how lightning can reverse the symptoms. Unless MS is a psychosomatic disorder, neither the auto-immune nor the demyelination ideas appear to make sense.

Question #9, since MRI results seem NOT to show continued and progressive demyelination as the fundamental and unvarying effect of MS and they don’t rule out oxygen as a key factor, we can continue to keep an open mind toward blood and oxygen as the fundamental truth of the disease. Lest anyone decide that I’m seeking oversimplification of a complex problem . . . Siblerud and Kienholz (1994) compared red blood cell concentrations and hemoglobin levels of MS patients who had their mercury amalgam dental fillings removed against blood values of MS patients who retained their amalgam fillings:

MS subjects with amalgams were found to have significantly lower levels of red blood cells, hemoglobin and hematocrit compared to MS subjects with amalgam removal.... The MS amalgam group had significantly higher blood urea nitrogen and lower serum IgG.... A health questionnaire found that MS subjects with amalgams had significantly more (33.7%) exacerbations during the past 12 months compared to the MS volunteers with amalgam removal. Obviously, while we’re still talking about the blood’s ability to deliver oxygen . . . every indication is that a wide variety of toxins and negative effects might stimulate that same over-arching undesirable effect. The specific trigger may vary from case to case, but the indications are that oxygen and blood might well hold the key to understanding MS.

Just as in AIDS, the possibility that the immune system is responding to an agent like a virus is countered by the reality that no such agent has ever been identified. We know that once identified, if transmitted to any animal or human in clinical experiments that theory could be proved. Retrovirus, where art thou????? In truth, endogenous retroviruses have not yet been proven to play any causal role in this disease. According to PO Behan and A Chaudhuri of Glasgow University, together with BO Roep of Leiden University (2002) contend there is little support for contemporary views that multiple sclerosis is an immunological disease. And not surprisingly, according to them, there is little benefit from treatments based on this misconception. In any case, since no "smoking gun" for MS has ever been found, isn't it a little short-sighted to UNCRITICALLY say that it MUST BE an autoimmunity problem?

Question #10 Some success has been had treating with either or both male and female hormones. Additionally, L-arginine creates nitric oxide in the blood which dilates blood vessels (like the bee venom employed by the Mayo Clinic). Zinc and magnesium are under-appreciated nutrients which play vital roles in human health and are vital for sexual health.  In the Nobel Prize winning work of Dr. Louis Ignarro, nitric oxide has been found (as a “trigger gas” operating within the blood stream) to play a vital role in cardio-vascular and sexual health. Certainly the cardio-vascular system is the system where the rubber of oxygen meets the road of blood. Again, the specific trigger for MS may vary from case to case, but there are no indications here that oxygen and blood do not hold the key to understanding MS and certainly there is no outright refutation for that idea to be found in this question . . . .

Question #11 and 13 are best answered and best understood together through the insights of Peter Good: “Two signs that endothelial nitric oxide may be chronically depleted in multiple sclerosis are that patients tend to be very heat-sensitive, and their platelets are sticky. Sensitivity to stress may reveal depletion of the parasympathetic transmitter neuronal nitric oxide. Other reasons to suspect endothelial nitric oxide depletion in multiple sclerosis are apparent deficiencies of sex hormones, magnesium, and zinc. Estrogen, testosterone via estrogen, and magnesium all utilize endothelial nitric oxide, the primary endogenous vasodilator, to relax vascular smooth muscle. The (most simple and straightforward explanation) of multiple sclerosis might be that too little blood in arteries and arterioles leads to vasospastic symptoms, while too much blood in veins and venules leads to blood-brain barrier leakage and lesions.”

The recent Nobel Prize based upon L-arnithine and nitric oxide gas in the blood being a "trigger" for the body seems to offer a promising area for further study. In any case, Oxygen's potentially primary role would be in harmony with this data since every indication is that the blood’s inability to efficiently process oxygen plays a key role in MS.

Question #12, is easily dealt with, in principle the last 40 years have seen a precipitous rise in all manner of environmental toxins. Polluted foods (steroids in meats, for example), side effects of certain pharmaceuticals, residential toxins (such as arising from carpet liners, asbestos, etc., etc., ad nauseum), the preponderance of intimate electronic devices such as cell phones, and just plain stress all could easily be regarded as potential triggers somehow setting in motion the conditions leading to diminished blood and oxygen to the brain and spinal cord. Obviously, we live in toxic times, but is this really where MS comes from, or perhaps what exacerbates MS? In any case, no refutation of the oxygen hypothesis is found here . . . most likely there are an infinite variety of toxic triggers that may either initiate MS itself, or initiate MS flare-ups.

Question #15 (Is there one over-arching theory that might explain all these factors?) In answering the previous 12 questions we have laid the groundwork for open mindedly considering that “Yes, there could be . . . in particular an overarching theory that holds the key to understanding MS seems to be: a theory of diminished blood or oxygen supply.

Remember, all this is just the tip of the tip of the iceberg, we could go on and on criticizing the AMA and how they make doctors practice medicine.  And the AMA is just one lounge chair on the beach of ineffective American medical practice.  For everything we can say about the AMA we can say ten times over about the FDA and about the food and drug industries that it monitors . . . but you've had an introductory look at where the problems lie.  Next time we'll get more into the solutions.
